Required COVID testing for players 13 and older

On March 19, 2021, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) announced that all non-contact and contact sports in the state could continue, as long as teams and athletes follow certain safety measures outlined in the March 19 Epidemic Order and the MDHHS Interim Guidance for Athletics.

Both the epidemic order and the MDHHS Interim Guidance for Athletics require athletes, coaches, and other sports team personnel to wear masks at all times except while in active participation of athletic activities conducted outdoors and at least six feet of physical distancing can be maintained. The Interim Guidance for Athletics also requires weekly testing for athletes ages 13 -19 participating in non-contact athletic activities.
*If your child is not yet 13 years old, they do not need to participate in weekly testing, but if they turn 13 during the season, they will need to begin weekly testing at that time.

Athletes who have recovered from COVID-19 in the past three months and remain symptom-free may participate in athletics without testing if they can provide a letter from their doctor attesting that they fall into this category. Any athlete that has symptoms of COVID-19 at any time should stay home and not attend practice or competition.

You can choose not to participate in COVID-19 testing. However, without participating in testing, your athlete will not be able to practice or compete in athletics, both at school and non-school affiliated.

If you do wish to participate in COVID-19 testing, please sign and return the Code of Conduct and Consent Form (click here) to [email protected].

Starting the week of 4/18, all athletes 13-19 are required to get tested and send that proof of testing to [email protected]This process needs to be followed each week.  For example, your athlete will need to be tested this week to play next week.  They will have to be tested next week to play the following.  And so on. The following is a link to free testing sites near you.  COVID Testing SitesWe will be tracking compliance as required by the MDHHS.  If your athlete is already being tested for another sport, you may use that same test for KBL.
