2019 Rule Changes

At the end of each season, the Coaches meet to vote on rule change and new rule proposals.  Last fall, the Coaches passed two new rules and one rule change.
Click here to see the KBL rules in full....but here's what's new:

  • NEW RULE! In Girls C (9 and 10 year olds), Players will be pitching!  The pitching machine will no longer be used and Girls C will play a modified kid pitch, just like Boys C already does.  This means a player will pitch to each batter, but if they pitch four called balls, the batter will not be awarded first base. At that point, a Coach will come in to pitch to that batter.  Check out Section XVII, Rules 13 -25 for all the details. (And stay tuned for info on pitching clinics for Players AND Coaches!)
  • RULE CHANGE! In Boys B (11 and 12 year olds), the distance of the bases and pitching rubber will be extended to 70' and 50' respectively.  Previously, the base and pitching rubber distances in Boys B were the same as in Boys C, with a significant increase in Boys A.  This rule provides a more gradual increase in base and pitching distances between C, B and A which will be more productive for the development of Players.  See Section XII, Rule 2 to read the rule.Ru
  • NEW RULE! In Boys and Girls A, B and C, a courtesy runner will now be allowed to be used in place of a runner who is scheduled to play catcher in the next half inning.  The Coaches are hoping this will help move the game along, allowing an incoming catcher some extra time to get the gear on.  There are a few things to know about this rule, so check out Section VII, Rule 3 for the details.
Have questions about rules? Our Umpire in Chief, Zach Brooks would be happy to answer them!
Want to suggest a new rule or rule change?  Every Parent and Coach will be invited to submit proposals at the end of the season.
